I have a 95 Ranger and am trying to install an aftermarket stereo. I have looked up the wiring diagrams and believe i have identified the correct wires, but am not getting 12v on the constant power.

Its pretty cold outside and I was getting frustrated, so ended up connecting the red and yellow wires from the stereo to the switched 12v power wire. Of course, when i turn the car off it loses all the presets.

I have checked and tested the radio fuse and it looks ok. Is there anything else to look for? I also checked the other wires and couldn't find any other 12v source with ignition off.

If all else fails I could tap into the cig lighter for a constant 12v but don't want to stress out that circuit if something else is plugged in? Or I could run a fused wire straight from the battery?

Your yellow wire is your constant 12 volt. When you say you checked the radio fuse do you mean the truck radio fuse or the radio itself? You absolutely can run a wire directly from the battery. You can put a 15amp or so inline fuse in there for extra safety. Should be like $5 at NAPA or where ever. I would us 16 or larger gauge wire, especially if plan to use the HU amp.

Red= hot w key on
Yellow = always hot
you can also choose any port in your fusebox on the "incoming" side that tests hot with key off. I recommend adding an inline fuse to your yellow wire if you do this because you are using the current "before" it passes through the fuse in the block.

Fixed it! I found a wiring diagram that says fuse 20 (one I checked) is HOT IN RUN or ACC.

Fuse 29 (I Did not check) is HOT AT ALL TIMES. Anyhow, I pulled this fuse and it was blown so it was replaced. I set the yellow and red wires from the stereo to where they should be and now the stereo works as it should http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/smilies/headbang.gif

Thanks for the suggestions.

Glad you got it fixed man.
