Do throttle body spacers increase horsepower or miles per gallon??

they make really nice paperweights, nothing else. just an expensive paper weight

TB spacers are a waste of money. You can buy an underdrive crank pulley for nearly the same price and have something that will improve power and fuel economy.

Froggman, don't you need a bigger pulley somewhere to makeup slack? Or just a tighter belt?

But ya, I think of it like, would a longer exhaust help? Buy one of those tornadoe thingies, swirl some air... Lol. They make a better noise.

Spacers are on the list right next to electric superchargers, $20 +40HP performance "chips" and those blue tinted headlight bulbs. The only improvement they will ever make is in the salesman's wallet.

If you want the improvement those are SUPPOSED to give you, go with the underdrive pulley, e-fan, and air box and throttle cable mods. Hell, the last two are free.

And if you want real power, save your money and either go motor swap or forced induction.

Edited: That's just my opinion, feel free to tell me to shove it where the sun don't shine. But its advice I was given when I bought my first ranger.

Think of pullies like gears. You need two to make a ratio, and the ratio gives you leverage. In a transmission gears 1, 2, and 3 are under-drive (the gear providing power spins faster than the gear it drives, but gives it more power), 4 is direct drive (1:1 ratio) and 5th is over-drive (drive gear spins slower than the driven gear).

An under drive pulley is the same deal as an under drive gear. It spins all your accessories (alternator, water pump, PS pump) slower but in turn it costs less power to spin them because it is smaller than the stock crank pulley.

Are these any good for 4x4ing, or does the slow engine speeds combined with small pulley mean poor performance for the alt and waterpump? I can certainly see how this would help with higher RPMs, but Im worried the accessories wont get enough power at low RPMs?

What airbox mod are you referring to?

I think he is referring to taking out the air silencer on the air box.

I also did the maf mod on mine and it seems to do something.
