I had just done a rear axle swap in my 1995 Ranger from the Ranger 8.8 to an Explorer 8.8.
All in all, everything was VERY easy and went extremeley well, but now i am having an issue with the brakes. At first, with the new discs in the back (all new hardware...rotors, calipers pads, ebrake) the petal was like a sponge and went right to the floor and no brakes. we bled them seven times and made sure there was no air at all. still, no brakes.
we then adjusted the pushrod on the booster that drives into the master cylinder and it was too much! permanent brakes all the time! we backed the adjustment off, and everything seemed fine and i drove it home the 45 miles from our Friend's garage. since this is not my primary driving vehicle, i have not driven it since Monday.
just this morning, i went to bring it to work, and after 10 minutes of driving, all 4 wheels locked up and the brake pedal was as stiff as can be!
is this just an issue with the push rod from the booster? will it need constant adjusting? i have also heard that if the reservior gets low or dry, and there is air from the master cylinder the RABS valve (air compressor looking thing) can basically become almost junk and cause soft brakes. if this is the case, can this just be removed, as i do not have ABS anymore.
also would i need or is it recommended to get myself an inline proportioning valve to compensate for the new hardware on the rear?
any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
