It is my understanding that they cannot be adjusted and the tick I have is from worn pushrods.

300k+ on the 4.0 doesn't tick all the time. Only seems to do it at idle.

How hard are they to replace? I've adjusted valves on a 22re. OEM replacement or is there something better? Any thing I can get to that I should adjust or change out while I'm there?

Haven't taken off the valve covers yet because I don't have new gaskets. I want to see inside this thing tho.

You are correct, there is no adjustment on the valves, except what is provided by the hydraulic adjuster/lifters.

There are hardened rods out there that are supposed to resist the footballing that makes the rods tick, which in turn is caused by poor oiling.

If you are hard up for money (the hardened ones can get pricey) you can also pull the rocker arms off and flip the rods and run them like that for a while.

All you really have to take apart is the valve covers and rocker arms. Just make sure that you get all the rods back in the rockers and tighten the arms down evenly a few turns at a time. You would be surprised how easy those rods pop out of the arms until you get some tension on the bolts.

Sounds pretty simple. Was thinking of throwing a cam in (410) but Idk if I wanna mess with the possible complications that may create with tuning. Sounds like an easy job. I visualize it in my head as easy. Idk if/when ill get to this. As I have 2 other 4.0s one that's ready to drop in. I want to run this one till it dies and try to keep it alive as long as possible then put all the parts from this one on the other engine.
