Adding factory CD player

You can just find a CD player factory head unit from a similar year Ford vehicle that also had the DIN+1/2 radio size. Most of them would be a direct plug and play, one thing to watch out for is the ones that have an external amp (usually Fords with "Premium Sound"). Rangers from around 98 didn't have premium sound so you'd be ok finding a head unit from a 98.

What Superds said.

Also, if you go a year or two older, you will run into the problem of the wiring plug being different. I had this issue with my 97, I bought a Factory CD/ Tape combo to replace my tape player and it came out of a 98. the plugs that were on the back were different, but the unit itself looked exactly like the one in my 97, except that it had a cd player. You can get a wiring harness adaptor for it online, but I forget the site that has it.
