I am a newbie for auto a/c system repair and I have spend over 3 and half months doing research on the ranger a/c system here on the TRS forums in which I found it to be very informative for just about all problems concerning the a/c system. the first thing I did is first of all get the a/c parts (compressor, evaportor, condenser, orficie tube accumulator) equiment (manifold gauage, air compressor). afterwards ready to take on the repair project. with the manifold gauge I proceeded to hook up the manifold gauge to the low and high service ports, but to my supprise, in the low service port I have found that the charging adapter or needle was missing.

as you can see in the pics. I went back to TRS forums in hope that I may be able to find a post with this kind of problems, but found none. The question I would like to ask is this, with that adaptor; possibly fell into the accumulator,
with that open hole would mean that the freon (all of it) leak out? and there might be no pressure in the system? I have not use the a/c for maybe over a 3 year period. there is no way I could test the a/c with the manifold gauge with that hole.
my ranger is a 96 XL 2.3L
any advice would be very helpful
Thanks

You said you just bought this accumulator? Take it back to the store and get a free replacement. The accumulator should have the valve core already installed. This one is obviously defective.

Hi, exbass94 thank for your reply to my post. I am sorry if there was some confussion in reading my post. what I was actually saying is that the accumulator with the missing adapter is the old part(15 yrs old) the new one (with the adpater) havn't installed yet.
I just would like to know for safty reason with that adapter missing (also the high port which is the old part is missing the adapter) and unable to check for freon within the system, could be saftly removed? with hole that big means big leak and maybe no freon or pressure? any true diagnos is greatly valued.
Thanks

The system cannot hold any pressure without that valve installed.

you need to replace the accumulator and have the system vacuumed before you charge it or it will a. not work b. destroy all the new parts when the moist air mixes and creates hydrochloric acid.

you can buy a schrader valve for the fitting or you can just replace the whole dryer... whcih you SHOULD do becaue it was open the the air for 3 years.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. Now I could work on my ranger a/c system without any worries. I have another question but it is a different matter, I will posted under a new thread. once again thank you for the valuable information.
