So me and my brother are driving home from Quebec thursday night. Probably around 10:30 or so, coming home from camp near Knowlton. We're maybe 20 minutes from our exit off the 401 highway when the song "schism" comes on the radio. It was a pretty cool, considering that song is never on the radio being tool and their stuff is pretty dark, but it was also pretty late at night. If you know the band, you know they're into writing serious weird stuff. So me and my brother discussing the awesomeness of the band, and how they recently played a show at a nearby venue, yatta yatta, "the video for this song is f*cked!", "sweet band", "non like them", all that.
So I'm sitting there in the passenger seat with my head down just playing air drums when the song lets to the slow part in the middle, I hear my brother go, "Look at this car is going off the road!" I look up and all I see...is car shrapnel. This guy drives right out the passing lane and directly into a guard rail(not the side, but directly into the front installation where it starts) going 120km/h, he split the guard rail, goes flying straight into a cement overpass wall and sends the whole guard rail into the road covering both lanes.
My brother, having both his socks and shoes off(cruise control on), misses the brake pedal and hits gas. Luckily he hits the brake just time to make it around on the gravel off the cruising lane.
We pull over, maybe 30 feet up just for a few seconds, when people start smashing into the bent guard rail at highway speeds. At this point I was outside of the truck, I thought I was in a warzone or something. The second car that hit the guard rail managed to pull over with a busted rad and you could hear people hitting eachother trying to brake, but the squeeling tires and the car that hit the bridge was maybe 20 feet away when he hit the cement wall. It was rough. The guy who hit the actual guard rail has to be in bad shape or dead because his car was totally mangled and he hit the wall so hard.
So I'm listening to the song "schism" by Tool that just came up on shuffle and am reading the lyrics. It's just eerie how well the song corresponds to the accident and the ambience or something of how it went down. Anyhow, yeah. Just wanted to share that. Almost died
