accessory position & fuel pump

why would the fuel pump turn on when i put the key into the accessory position? i would like to listen to the radio without the fear of burning up my fuel pump...

The chances of burning up the fuel pump are highly unlikely as it's designed to run whenever the motor is running. That being said it's not supposed to run when you have the key in the accesory position, it's controlled by the computer but might have been previously by-passed to get the truck running. You have a couple of options. Either start tracing the wires to find out what's happening or just turn it off with the inertia switch whenever you want to just listen to the radio.

You're probably turning it forward to the run position, if you turn the key backward(toward you) after you put it in, that is the accessory position. That is assuming it's like mine which is a 2000. lol

Even when you turn the key to the run position it only runs for 1-2 seconds and then shuts off.

I am turning it backwards to the accessory position. I'll have to start tracing wires and figure it out...

It wont come on in the ACC position.

My '99 does the same thing. Logic tells me its not supposed to. I bought the truck used last year, so somebody may have done a little "rewiring" at some point in the past. Like you, I dont want to burn up my fuel pump. So Ill save listening to the radio to when Im actually driving.
