I was reading about stretch in the accelerator cable and see how to fix that. Still, noting that the accelerator pedal is a one piece plastic affair, any chance these deform over time? It just seems to me that it takes more leg stretch to reach the accelerator than it used to. The brake pedal position is fine but not the accelerator pedal.

Theres a how to in the tech section. In simple terms you put zip ties behind the cable and throttle pedal in the cab.

Agree with Dirtman. When I did that on an old Explorer, muscle-memory got the best of me. It's fun though!
Actually have a question on this. If adjusting the line under the hood, when do you know it's tight enough? I know the butterfly plate needs a little slack at idle.

If its efi you never want the cable tight enough to open the throttle body whatsoever with the pedal up. It does not need to be open at all, the iac valve is in charge of that. Just make the cable tight enough that you have full range from 0-100%

I've always heard/read that was the correct way, but admittedly when I did the Explorer, I did it at the gas pedal.

That was the right way with a carb. I can't think of any EFI vehicle that had an adjustment under the hood, except the stop screw, and touching that is a big no-no.
