Accel Coil Pack???

When is the last time you saw a dragster with 100K miles on it???????;missingteeth;;missingteeth;
I don't know Bob, NASCAR runs cars at 9,000 RPM's for 500 miles without problems; that seems to be pretty reliable to me.

And again, to what standards are 4.0 cylinder heads built to? United Mickey Mouse standard? Autolites and Motorcraft are built to the same standards and specifications and ford dealers sell autolites as a direct replacement for motorcraft, so to most people they are one in the same. Denso seems to have done the right job.

Motorcraft are made by the same company as Autolight (so are Champions), but Ford has their own specs they require them to made to.

Not true! Autolite and Motorcraft spark plugs are made by Honeywell, a division of Allied Signal. Champion spark plugs are made by Federal Mogul.

He wants to know about reliability, not application (and how in the hell did this turn into a spark plug "discussion"?). :D

Unfortunately I don't have experience with aftermarket coil packs, but FWIW, I run an MSD Blaster II coil on my 2.9L (same as you, needed a new one and it was on sale) and it's worked fine for 3 years. I even have a wiring schematic to use the coil on my carbbed 5.0L to save a little more change. Coils are simple, there's no magic or secret to them, and typically they last at least 10 years or more. The one that I replaced had to be the OEM one from 1988, and it still worked, but was corroded and caused intermittent problems.

The question, to bring it back to reality, is that I have a miss, and I am suspecting the coil pack. There's always the chance that it could be a faulty cylinder head and/or a bad head gasket replacement... but I'm trying to prepare for the worst. According to the SMOG POLICE, I have very high numbers coming out the tail pipe, related to unburned fuel. I am suspecting the injector is firing, but I'm not getting a good burn.

Then let me suggest paying the money for a decent dealership to diagnose what is causing it, not what your guess is.

And Mr Ayers is right; ignition systems have had more uneccesary money spent in them than any other system in a vehicle.
