I have a problem with my brakes. When I go to press the brake pedal the ABS system kick on and its dry pavement outside. This is occurring on a regular basis. I don't have any ABS lights coming on either. Anybody have any ideas what is causing this and what I can do to fix it cheap. Thanks in advance.

Wrong forum....needs moved to the brake forum.

You need to clean off the sensors with some brake clean and a rag to get any particles off. There is a sensor on the top of the rear differential, and depending on if you have 4WABS, there will be one on each front wheel.

what i mean by the having to replace the ABS system. I want my brakes working top notch but if I have to replace the ABS then no Im not spending the money to do that.

Mine was doing basically the same thing, except my ABS light was on. Turns out it was the ABS control computer. Good-bye $700!

Same issue here, however mine is only around 5 mph, no ABS light. Thought changing the rotors and pads would help but that didn't do much with that problem. Once that ABS starts going I have no control of the brakes, the pedal gets as hard as a rock. I've heard of removing the fuse, but when I looked for the fuse it seemed to be controling other things, such as instrument lights, unless this is an error.

...Clean your speed sensors :temper:

Possibly if it were the rear sensor....But why not just do the easiest thing that doesnt cost you any money to do first before you rule it out.

If you dont have an abs light, the abs system is working properly...Your malfunction is "when" its kicking it, not "if". The abs system uses the wheel speed sensors to determine "when" to kick in.

I'll check it out. Definetly wouldn't want to buy something if I don't necessarily need it.
And thanks for the input, I'm learning...
