ABS Sensors location

hi, i have a Ranger 1999 4x4 ext cab, 3.0 L and sometimes the abs light comes on, specialy when i drive above 55 m/h.
i found something about to clean the abs sensors to work well, but i wonder how many sensors does my truck has and where are they located?.
Also i read about a vss "vehicle speed sensor" that also may turn on the abs light.

It is located on the rear differential. Just replace it, its cheap.

do you have rear wheel only abs or do your front wheels have abs also?

His truck is a 4x4 so I'd say 4wABS, even though it's usually the rear sensor that goes bad which is also the one that senses vehicle speed.

i have recently had the same problem,mine has three sensors,one on each front wheel and one in the rear diff.if your abs light is not on when you first start it let it run, wiggle the wire starting at the sensor and working to the connector,the abs light will come on if you have a bad wire,which was the case with mine.the front ones are behind the front rotors,if you pull the two 15mm bolts that hold the caliper bracket on ,you can pull off the front caliper and bracket together with the rotor.the sensor is in plain view now with a 5 mm allen bolt.you can pull the sensors but be very careful originals usually are stuck so pull gentle.under the sensor is a ring with square teeth,turn the axle and clean with a q tip and no solvents.anything between sensor and that ring would give a false reading.
