So my Uncle just bought a 2000 Ranger Off road 4x4. Rebuilt from US (canada here) Just saftied(law here) and complaning about the brakes. Rough and like the ABS would come on. Pull off the front wheels and see basacally no surface left on the rh rotor. And only about 1/2 contact on the lh rotor. So off to napa and get new pads and rotors which are dirt cheap compared to the old junk that i work on!
So we put on the new parts and take it for a drive. Drives straight, good petal, no shaking.
BUT coming to a complete stop at a stop sign lets say, about 1 second before it does actually come to a complete stop, you can hear and feel the ABS coming on. Petal gets soft and then thats it. Ony does it just right before it stops. I thought it was something i did, pushing the calipers back in to install new brake pads, but then he tells me it was doing this before the brake job.
No ABS light on on the dash, but im thinkng its a no bulb trick. It doesnt come on when you start the truck. Anyone have any ideas? Everything works fine, just that last second before it stops, it wants to engage the abs, for what seems to be no apparent reason. We pulled it for codes with a buddys reader, and got 3 codes to do with the TPS. Nothng to do with the ABS at all
Im stumped? And My 92 shop manual is not much good on helping me on this one!
