so my abs light, and my e brake light came on as i came to a stop sign, i actually stop at the stop signs now since i got a ticket about 2 months ago, any how they came on, no apprent reason, i came to a slow stop it wasnt sudden or anything, but it wouldnt bother me except they stay on now, the abs and e brake light come on as soon as i depress the brake while in motion and then the abs light stays on for the remainder of the trip, the ebrake light seems to come and go, flickering, it comes on when i brake or press the gas, if i just coast it stays off

i guess what im askin is, there some thing wrong, and how do i fix it?

and p.s. the day it started was the coldest its been all year it was like 20 degrees when it happened an that was monday. idk if that would mattter but its fn cold right now.

Sounds like the fluid level is low and is sloshing back and forth when coming to a stop.

this same exact thing happened to me, im new here and was just about to post a thread about it.the only difference with mine is that the e-brake light stays on all the time with the abs light. They both go off after a while but come back on every time i push hard on the pedal. I never had this problem before it got cold out either. fluid seems fine, right up to the fill line. please let me know if you figure out what this is and/or ow to fix it.

yeah it just started when it got below 30. ill check the fluid tomorrow, theres a about an 80 percent chance of snow so i prolly wont be going to school, it doesnt even have to snow, and we prolly wont go.

ill check the fluid, i had wondered if some how the vaccum buster line could be loose since its soo cold but that would have and effect on the engine idle right?

yeah it was low on brake fluid thanks guys., but why how would it get low obviously it will leak but if it is leaking does that mean something is wrong, and or a part is going out?

Mine does the same thing, but it only does it in the cold weather. my abs light comes on and the brake light goes off it seems as it only does if i gun it. However once the ABS light comes on the brakes seem to stop fast and better, anyone know the reason for that 98 Ranger?

The fluid goes down for one of 2 reasons. A leak in the system, or the friction material (front pads) are worn right down.

well crap i had my entire front brakes redone like 4000 miles ago, i guess i got a leak somewhere where should i look? and weak spots on rangers of my gen?

Check the rear wheel cylinders in the drums brakes. Pull the rubber boots back and check for fluid.

Other than that check along the gas tank/frame rail for leaks in the body line.

its my master cylinder, checked this morning with my neighbor, the seals bad, ill probably replace it next weekend.
