So I called around looking for the right-sized steel washers to make some 1" (1.5" lift) spacers for the front of my 2.3, 2wd '87 ranger and decided to get some feedback on a couple questions that came up first.
The article in the tech library states that 1 3/8" i.d x 3" o.d. washers were used to make the spacers. The only problem is, no one around here has any in that size. I can get 1 3/8" i.d steel washers, but the outside diameter is 2 3/4". Likewise, I can get 3" o.d washers from another place, but the i.d. on those are 1 1/4". Should such a small difference in size matter or cause issues come installation time?
Truth be told, I would rather make my own solid steel spacers out of a couple blocks of steel, but I don't have the tools to make it happen. I called around to a spring/fab shop and they wanted something like $140 to make me some spacers, which is just ridiculous.
Last but not least, do you think I would be better off with the spacers, or should I swap in some 4dr 'sploder coils from the boneyard for a little lift. The truck will be used to explore the vast high deserts of southern Idaho in addition to more mundane dd duties, so I was leaning towards the spacers because I'd like to improve upon (or at least retain) what little available travel I can get out of the front. Any ideas, comments, experiences etc would be greatly appreciated
