Transmission

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Last Friday my transmission went out, needed a complete rebuild. Got it rebuilt Saturday, made it to Spokane. before the reverse gear went out. Dropped it off Monday at the Aamco in Auburn WA to be rebuilt under warranty. I was told tuesday afternoon it would be ready, called tuesday morning and guess what............ had not even been pulled in to be looked at. Wednesday the story was it will be ready tomorrow (thursday). Guess what.......... not ready yet. I was told Friday afternoon for sure. guess what, 8pm on Friday and they don't have the transmission back yet. I have to fly home tonight so I can be back to work monday morning, My wife will have to drive it home with 3 kids in it by herself providing it is ready monday because grad school starts the following monday.

I had to pay $2600 to get it rebuilt the first time, you would think because I am pissed off because my first $2600 rebuild didn't make it 900 miles that i would be moved to the front of the line just to keep me from running my mouth and making aamco pay to have it rebuilt somewhere else. I am not happy, I am never going to use aamco ever again and if my car is not ready monday my lawyer will be calling them to arrange for them to buy my wife's train tickets home and to pay to have my car shipped home and sent to ford for a new transmission (what I should have done in the first place).

This vacation has cost me $2600 for a transmission. $200 for 2 extra nights in a hotel. $150 for a rental car for 2 days. and $400 for a plane ticket home. this does not count what we had already planned to spend.

I am never going on vacation again.

Yeah they quoted me 2600 for mine as well, found a reman and a local guy so deciding which route to go. Definately won't be AAMCO though

I would have went to my local guy if I hadn't been 1400 miles from home when it went out. I called and checked, my local guy would have been $1800 with a 2 year warranty.

$2,600?? Man that is a rip off!!! My neighbor had our local Aamco do thier Dodge Ram (auto) for $1,295 last December and they got a two year waranty with it. Man...$2,600.....that hurts the wallent or credit card!!!

You need to write up a log of everything that happened, and if possible retain yourself an attorney. You dont neccessarily have to use him, but you wanna be able to throw his name around. Even if you do use him aamco will settle in a heartbeat just to avoid court, especially with your circumstances. Im not much for the whole lawsuit trend that we have, but in this case, I would damn sure start pushing the big red button on aamcos lapel.

Agreed. you did save all the paperwork, RIGHT????

Next time, think about AAA. For $70 a year, it's a good deal.

+1 on AAA. My one buddy's mom has a AAA platinum account which she pays a bit more than $70 for, she rarely uses it for actual automotive stuff (I've gotten more cars towed with her account than she has) but with all the discounts it gets her on other things (insurance, cell phone, travel, etc) she usually ends saving more money that she'd have otherwise spent than she spends on her AAA fees.

I've added my mom & my sister on my account too. My sister travels a fair ammount, so it's worth it to her to get discounts on airfare and hotels. For mom, it's just piece of mind in case her car has trouble.

I find that transmission rebuilds are very VERY variable!!!

It does NOT matter who does it, it matters what they do. I mean really, some transmission rebuilds can last hundred thousand miles or more, some die in 200 miles.

You could have had a worn component that was missed in the rebuild(assuming it was a REAL rebuild, not just slapping a Joe Six Pack prepackaged "kit" in it)

It is better than gambling with a Junkyard unit, but really I would go re-manufactured all the way.

...and yeah, that is WAY too much for a rebuild, unless there was some serious carnage the shop had to replace, I've seen O.D./Reverse gears go for $350 a piece, dealer prices, but you have to man up if there is none to be had at a salvage yard.:shok:

that sucks balls dude.

No it just plain sucks. Leave me out of it.

Sorry for your torment BDAB. If you had just gone down and bought a dress for $20 bucks you could have been a brand new tranny.

I too hate Aamco. You need to find a website where you can complain and get more public attention.

on the first rebuild everything was relaced down to the solenoids (sorry, no spell check on the phone) good news is i landed in chicago so i will be home watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

bad news is my car still isn't done.

yeah I have heard nothing good about Aamco (All Automatics Must Come Out) everything I have heard is that any issue with the transmission is "your transmission must be rebuilt" and then I have heard numerous horror stories such as yours.
