A4LD'S SUCK [ i want a 5 speed ]

So for the fourth time my auto trans has blown up and im done messing with it so my Question is how hard is it to do a manual swap my ranger is a 1990 4x2 4.0 extended cab, what year trucks should i look for to rob parts and also what trans should i use cross member and will my drive shaft work???? What do i need to know to get the job done and save my poor ranger from an inferrior transmisson!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must be a glutton for punishment. It only took me three blown up A4LD transmissions to get me to make the switch to a stick.

IMHO the best trans is an M5OD R-1 Mazda. You will need all the clutch parts; be sure the flywheel is earlier than 1998 because they went from 6 to 8 flange holes starting in 1998. Also needed are the pedal assembly, steel bell housing plate, flywheel pilot bearing spacer (junk yard item), manual starter. I used the same crossmember and it worked fine. If you want perfection you need the manual computer. I kept the auto computer in my swap and the truck runs better than before. I did the swap myself without a lot of knowledge and it was pretty straight forward. If you have questions TRS is there which is how I got my questions answered.

so should i look for a two wheel drive trans or will the tail shafts inter change and also what years would you recommend also will my drive shaft work? im also curious about the pedal assembly is that a muti year kinda set up as in for ten years they all used the same pedal assemblys?
