A4ld to Mazda M50D-R1 questions

I'm gathering parts to do the swap and was reading in the tech library on how to do it. A couple of questions have arised, one being about how well will the 5speed hold up offroad and will it hold up better then the a4ld. Ive heard alot of people complain about the 5 speeds slave cylinders. Second is about retiming the motor afterwards, is it mandatory and how would you go about doing it and what would be needed. thanks

on my 4cly 2.3 I just swapped out the a4ld for the 5speed and drove it. no retiming or other adjustments. worked fine till I blew the motor. and that was going all over the place with a utility bed loaded with all kinds of crap for shoeing horses.

+1 The Mazda is way stronger than the A4LD ever thought of being.

do the swap, i am on my second a4ld, the two scenieros are, keep the a4ld, and pull and swao in a new one when they blow, not if, but when


or pull a manual to replace just the slave cylinder and put it back in, its cheaper, easier, and you get alot more strength!


if my girl drove stick i would have converted, but i lost my license so she has to drive me to and from work with the truck

thanks, yea I plan on doing the swap just cursious about the timing issues dont want to blow the motor for not retiming, if its goin to blow its gonna be gettin out a hole.lol.

I'm on my second a4ld also and im making plans to convert to 4wd and a sas so im just figuring up all i need and couldnt decide to get a transfer case for the a4ld or 5speed and transfer case.
