i was thinking about switching out my a4ld to a manula trany, what is the difculty level on this and what kinds of problems will arise. and one more thing how much would a transmition cost from a junkyard? thx for any help

This has been covered plenty on the forum, so give it a search and I'm sure you'll find what you need.

Basically you'll need the transmission, fly wheel, a clutch kit, and appropriate length drive shafts. A4LD to M5OD should be the same shafts. You'll also want the manual transmission ECM.

88 bronco II (4.0) i replaced my al4d with a, m- 50d mazda 5 speed from a 92 exp, the hardest part is getting the trans over the exhaust,i had to basically pry it over the exhaust to get it in. the floorboard where it meats the fire wall has has a lip you might want to cut some of it away that would really help.

Drop the exhaust and it gets a lot easier. ECM can be used w a manual, you'll just idle a lil higher. You'll need the flywheel, and clutch set. Put a new slave and Master cylinder on, Clutch peddles and steering column. Took me 3 days.

so is it basically a straight swap. or is there some modification involved. i know there will be some little stuff like the clutch pedal, and a hole for the shifter but is there more involved things that would need to be done as well?

There are a ton of posts here on how to get it done....the "SEARCH" button is in the banner for you to use.

I just did this a couple months ago. Relatively easy even on the driveway. I have a set of '89 pedals and the carrier for them I bought by mistake ('87 is different) you can have for $60.00 shipped. Paid $250 for my M5OD. Used the 4.0 clutch/pressure plate/flywheel and starter. Search for posts in my user name and you will find the wiring changes.
