a4ld to 5 speed swap

i have a 1992 ranger stx with the 4.0 in it and the a4ld which is on its last legs, anybody ever swap out an a4ld for a 5 speed? any suggestions on what 5 speed i should use? can it b done? does the crank have to b swapped to hold a pilot bearing? any info would b great help, thanks
