94, 4.0, 4x4, XLT. Would like imput from anyone that has done a teardown on one. My problem is that second gear band broke. Trans is fine otherwise.

Hard to justify hundreds for a $10 part.

Without reading the pdf, to get to the band (step 42 IIRC) are there special tools required to get here or re-assembly?

Logical input would be great. :icon_thumby:

Can't think of any special tool really needed to tear it down. Really its just a bunch of bolts and snap rings. You do need to remember there is a bolt going up through the case under the valvebody holding the center support along with snap ring. If you are going to pull clutch packs apart you will eventually need a special made compressor to get it compressed to change the seals. Also you will need a special alignment hub to align the pump and bellhousing to the rest of the parts. Aside from that they are fairly simple as long as you have an idea of how they work and go together. As you completely sure it was the band that broke and not the servo which can be kinda common.

Ya, end of band was laying in pan when I did fluid change :bawling: :icon_cheers:

Its a simple process to disassemble the transmission. To just change the band you wont need any special tools. and as far as the alignment tool, you don't align the belhousing to to the rest of the trans you just align the pump to the bell. Just don't pull the pump off the bell and you'll be fine.

Good call...I was thinking a total rebuild.

Maybe I can borrow a junk one from my friends at the P&P to practice on. :icon_idea:

Seeing that I'm a computer dumba$$ :icon_rofl:, if I down load the pdf for the trans teardown, can I then print it out. I gotta have pictures and print in front of me. :icon_thumby:
