will an A4LD out of a 87 ranger with 2.9 swap into a 93 explorer with the 4.0? if so what needs to be done? thanks

From what I've read in the tech library, yes, it will fit.

Hello

From what I have read on these trany is pre 93 1/2 are a weak trany. 93 1/2 up have stronger parts. Im taking a4ld from a 94 areostar and putting it in a 85 B2. I will need to rebuild the VB from the 85 to work the 94.

igiveup

the reason i am asking this is that i just had the tranny from the ranger rebuilt and the one that is in an explorer that i am looking at is not so good so thought for just everyday driving that the rebuilt would work if it fits which sounds like it should bolt up using donor parts from the ranger?

It will work but don't expect to do any hard driving or pulling. I have a 4.0 in my Bronco II with the Bronco II's a4ld tranny and haven't had any troubles at all but I drive it nice and don't pull anything. I have heard the minute that someone decides to do any hard driving or pulling the tranny will go.

the a4ld as it was like togo out behind the 2.9 so behind a 4.0 it will be the bigger engines bitch so to speak
