I'm going to look for a used A4ld in the local recking yards. I read this in the tech section.

"Best I can tell from ATSG manual, the changeover date for single to dual solenoid versions occurred in mid '88 The single solenoid originally on the trans 85-87 controls only the TC lockup function. Later models had the 3-4 shift inhibit solenoid added in 88. And I have both a 90 2.9 A4LD and a 93 Explorer A4LD here, both have the dual solenoid setup."

Which A4ld year will work in my 87 BII? Mine is an 87 and I wonder how these solenoids work? If I used an A4ld out of a 90BII or explorer what modification will I need to do to the wiring?

If you use a newer 88-89 And up You will need the Explorer's Pcm and Wiring , I just put a BII trans in my Explorer And Have No Overdrive due to the wiring and single solenoid !
