A4LD shifting problem

'89 Ranger 2.9 A4LD : When I'm driving over 55 mph the trans wants to keep jumping between 3rd and 4th and doesn't want to stay in OD/4th? It did this a few years ago, and one day the torque converter blew up. $1600 to have it rebuilt. Any ideas why this thing is shifting like that? Thanks for any replies, Dave:icon_confused:
