Well i bought an 85 bronco II 4wd with 3" lift and 31's and stock 3.73s, and i've been trying to get the thing running right, anyways it has the A4LD auto tranny. on take off it feels like the converter is slipping, u have to give it alot of gas to make it go. forward or reverse. when u are driving it accelerates really slow, i know the bigger tires play some part in that. when it shifts its smooth, but over 45mph its constantly dropping down into 2nd and 3rd, and can still barely pull a hill. i dont think its an engine problem as it seems to be running good. sometimes at stoplights with my foot on the brake it sorta lunges forward. i havent changed the fluid or filter yet, but the fluid level is fine. any ideas on what it could be?

yesterday i ended up doing a filter and fluid replacement, and its still feels like its slipping, just not as bad, any ideas?

The a4ld is a good trans but picky. that truck came w/ 28" tall tires, and there are 31" on it. yes the converter slips, its ment to, first and reverse are not. an old trans and big tires dont mix, you need to regear it befor you blow up the trans. 4.56:1 would be the best for you.

at least go to the junk yard and get 4.10:1

thats what i was thinking, i put some lucas in the tranny fluid when i changed the filter, and it helps alot...i can actually go 55mph and it doesnt constantly shift, im looking for 4.56's are they available for the d28? also my bronco had the tulip style driveshaft and it took a crap, so i put an extra spicer (non cv) shaft i had on her and im gettin some pretty bad driveline vibes, it doesnt seem to have a balance weight on it, but they both seem to be around the same length, how can i fix that?

If it is constantly hunting between gears like that, do your trans a huge favor and lock it out of overdrive. (shift it into "D" instead of "OD") Hunting between gears like that builds up a lot of heat and can kill a trans very quickly.

west coast differentials and richmond gear, bolth have 4.56 for the d28. buy why not drop in a d35?

the vibe. is because there is no double cardian joint, you could just pick 1 up at the junkyard and replace the u joints, or rebalanced.

i dont really have a need to upgrade to a d35, i dont wheel hardcore, and im not going any bigger then 31's, when i do im going F/W SAS d44/d60/5.0
but thats gonna be forever
