The truck is a 1990 Ford Ranger, 2WD, 2.3Liter, Automatic Transmission (A4LD) with 230,000 miles on the chassis. A few months ago the transmission failed with these symptoms; came off of the Interstate exit to a stop. Drove approximately 50 yards and had no drive or reverse. I removed the transmission and rebuilt it in my shop. (I have rebuilt a 4R70W a couple of years ago and had no problems with it. Over the years I have rebuilt several engines; cars and motorcycles and in my profession I was a machinist and a welder; retired now.)
For the rebuild, I ordered a master kit from Transtar Industries and replaced the following: Torque Converter, all clutches, all seals and orings, servo pistons, and decided not to do the upgrades to the valve body recommending by some online sites. I checked the drums for cracks and inspected the sprag and thrust bearings. I adjusted the bands according to the specifications. Before installing the transmission into the truck, I filled the torque converter with fluid. After reinstalling the transmission, I ran the truck through all of the gears with the wheels off of the ground on my lift; verified fluid levels and removed the truck from the lift. I was able to back the truck out of my shop, but then I had no forward drive. When shifted into forward gears, the truck seems to want to pull, but will not. I have checked the fluid level to verify that it okay and it was.
Any suggestions as to what I might have overlooked?
Thanks!

transman304 is pretty good at troubleshooting these, he hasn't been on in a while but you might try to PM him.

Thanks Shran for your reply. I'm not sure how to PM him. Do I do that through this forum?

Click that, then click Start Conversation. I tried to tag him on this thread but his username doesn't pop up, guessing the forum software thinks "transman" means something other than "transmission man"
