A4LD issue... interesting one

well... update on the truck...

got my starter off finally... ive gotten rid of alot of my tools, so i had to borrow a swivel from my dad... so i got that off and ready to be replaced tomorrow morning at autozone.....

but i did the "inside" version of replacing the modulator... and i think once i get down the road, maybe when i freshin up the exhaust, im going to make a removable section for the exhaust... because in order to do the modulator from the top, i had to remove the front seats and shifter then roll the carpet back from the front on both sides and it was still a bitch because i really didnt see a way to disconnect the shift linkage... i may have missed something there...

but onto the good news... i wont know until tomorrow if the new modulator fixed it because of the bad starter.... but the good news is.... that i saw remnants of tranny fluid around the old modulator and there was clearly fluid in the vacuum side of the modulator... so im crossing my fingers that its fixed with the new one...

got new starter in, test drove and it still doesnt shift....

the modulator that autozone sold me was the one with the screw in the end of it...

could that be the issue?

when i put it in 1st and then change to 2nd it like drops into 2nd hard... but thats is far as i can go with it, when i try to go to D for 3rd, it just goes back to 1st... same with the circled D

ok....

so with a cooler head... my dad suggested since the other non-blue modulator was only 12$, just to try it and see where im at....

so i did... reluctantly... but this time, i forced myself to attempt to replace the modulator from underneath.... which i did... which i really have to say... its easier...

you just have to snake your arm, if its small enough, from the rear by the transfer case to the modulator... then use your right hand to pass your 10mm to your snaked left arm...

super easy and took about 10mins...

but anyways... like i said, i was reluctant at this point... but i pressed on, took the truck to the end of the street, no shift... so i went down another street where i could get on it alittle more to try and see if i just needed to get the rpm's up alittle just for that first shift to let the transmission know that all is good now and lets start working again.

it shifted... ever so quietly...

i was like.... WTF?

put my seat belt on and went one more street over to the main road by my house... it shifted all the way to that main road..

got on the main rood... shifted without skipping a beat...

called my dad and let him know.... 1800rpm at 55mph...

i was ecstatic.....

so i returned the other modulator after driving my truck to autozone...

so all in all... my transmission at this point likes the Non-blued modulator...

i saw posted of other people where 2wd likes the non-blued and 4x4 likes the blued... so who knows what blued and non-blued really is....

i dont really care... its working.... very well... knock on wood....

in 10k miles when this modulator has started to go... i will deffinately be getting the non-blued again...

thank you all for the info and tips...
