Fluid full and nice and red, no codes and no check engine lamp.

From a stand still in 1st or reverse it will slip then engage gear and move (intermitently happens)....once moving the truck runs and shifts beautiful 1-2 2-3 3-4 are all nice and smooth. Only while at a stand still trying to get it going does it have problems.

I have my other trans ready to go in at work tomorrow but just throwing it out there if their might be an easier fix or stupid item causing this symptom.

What does it do in D ( not O/D ) ??

My a4ld started doing that last winter. when it warmed up in the spring it went away until late summer and then the tranny died, nothing, it wouldn't move. This was the third a4ld in less than 2 years, both used from salvage yards. I'm pushing 66 and don't drive my truck hard and not very much.

I got totally ticked off, almost got rid of the truck, it's been sitting since. This past weekend I got a M50d and everything needed to swap it out for $150. As soon as it warms up, it will be the end of the a4ld. The Ranger is a good truck but the automatic trannies are made out of tissue paper.

I think what the A4LD's are made of is more like what the tissue paper is designed to clean up. Your post could have been written by me except that I am 4 years older and the parts cost me $600.00.

Yanking an A4LD is like yanking an impacted molar; a PITA and expensive, but after it's done you wonder why you put up with the aggravation for so long. :icon_thumby:

I'm only 50 miles away from you. Let me know when you plan to tear into it since I have a trans jack and have already done this year Ranger swap.

i replaced the vacumn mod and no more issues, i pulled the vacum line off and fluid came pouring out.

I have an 14ld in my explorer and it wont go into reverse or 1st is this a common problem ? would the vacuum mod fix this problem?
