A4LD Front Seal

What could cause the front seal in an A4LD to just come out of its location? The entire seal just pushed out of the housing. It looks totally undamaged. ID and OD are fine. It is in a '92 Explorer. Previous owner had a remanufactured trans put in. Has been running fine for a couple years, more than 30,000 miles, and the seal just fell out a couple weeks ago. I was not driving so don't know if there were any symptoms taking place at the time. What are the chances I can just put a new seal in it and be okay?

I guess that's what I would do (put a new seal in) but I would use a micrometer or something and check the OD of the seal vs the ID of the housing that it's being pressed into.

My 94 Eplorer blew out the front seal after putting in a new trans. Friction fit alone will not hold the seal in, Take a hammer and a drift (Chisel) and gently tap and deform the ring inward that protrudes around the seal, not much, 3 spots at least.

Welcome to the A4LD front seal blowout. My truck has done it twice in three months. So I'm switching to manual. But anyways, that's pretty common for this transmission to just push the seal out. Without damaging it. I don't know of any permant fix. It seems like the ID was machined out just a little too much when they made the trans.
