I've got a '90 Ranger 2.9L w/ A4LD project truck. The original A4LD is toast, but I got a used A4LD, salvaged at about 40K after a full rebuild by a Ford dealership. I got it from the owner's long-term mechanic, so I believe it to be in good condition, along with the torque convertor.
That being said, it's been sitting stored for around 6 years. When I got it I pulled of the torque convertor so it was easier to move, which I sort of regret now. But everything was kept covered, sealed off and clean.
It's finally time to install this unit, and I think I should probably replace the front oil pump seal (the one the the torque convertor shaft slides into). I was careful when I pulled the TC and the seal looks good, but after sitting dry for so long it just seems for the best.
Do you agree, and what else should I consider before installation?
Also, in looking at rockauto.com for parts I see they list a front pump seal, which is what I believe I need, and a front grease seal. So I'm a bit confused. The neck or shaft of the TC is what passes through the seal I'm talking about, if that makes sense.
