I have a broken cooler line. Can I patch it with a rubber hose or do I need a steel line to handle the pressure?

You can patch it with rubber hose but before you do that look at the rest of the lines to make sure they aren't rotted away. If they are you will need to replace them all. It's just mild steel tube that you can get from any autoparts store, just bend new lines. If you are patching it use rubber transmission line which you also can get at any autoparts store. Other hose will break down or burst. Also it is smart to put a little flare at the ends of the hard lines so the hose can't slide off after it has been clamped.
