A4LD bellhousing change?

ok so i broke the bellhousing in my 85 bronco II. i have another trans with a good bell. how hard is it to swap them? i was told that they have an internal pump and a trans shop needed to do the swap. true or can i do it myself? thanks rough

The pump is bolted to the bell housing. If you have one sitting around and it still has the pump bolted to it, it's a straight unbolt and bolt up task (you will need a gasket). If by chance you have one without the pump bolted to it, just take your broken bell housing and new one to a transmission shop and pay to have them swap the pump to the new bell housing. If it's a reputable shop, they will have the proper aligning tool. It's far cheaper than buying an aligning tool that you're only gonna use once. i have a complete other trans. all there its jsut burnt up so i can jsut unbolt it and switch the bells and pumps....... i was told by a guy that works for aamco that the guts will come with the pump and then i will have big problems.... thanks rough

If the transmission is cooked (the donor), I would defiantly swap the pump. A bad pump could be the root cause of the transmission going. You know yours works, go with it.
