I'm wanting to take the transmission from a 93 Ford Explorer 4x4 and put it in my 94 ford ranger 2wd. Would this be as easy as unbolting the transfer case and bolting up my 2wd tail shaft? Any information would be great! The information I've gathered isn't exactly pertaining to my project and has left my search inconclusive :( I should also mention both vehicles are 4.0s

Wont work. You have to swap output shafts.

How many times do we have to answer this same question?

No, with the A4LD, and most 1980's and up automatics, you have to do a total rebuild to change shaft from 4WD to 2WD, or visa versa.

And most also have integrated bellhousing starting in the mid-1980's, so yes matching trans would have to be from 4.0l
