Hey guys I'm thinking about swapping my 2wd to 4wd.
Truck is a 91 3.0l with an A4LD auto, 2wd.
Question : What is involved with making the tranny able to accept the transfer case?
I know the end of the housing unbolts, and that will be swapped, but does the shaft stay the same?

Transmission needs to be disassembled and the rear of the main shaft needs to be replaced for it to be 4x4.

Thanks guys.
Was too lazy to look through the service manual.
But I see now the entire tranny needs to come apart to swap it.
Looks like I'll be looking for a donor

If you can find a donor that has all the upgrades internally in the tranny. That is alot of work to just have the tranny fail after you put it all together. It might be cost effective to have your tranny rebuilt and add the tailshaft and housing to bolt up to the transfer case. That way your not pulling the tranny again in six months.
