My son burnt up this transmission in his '93 Ranger. I ordered a service manual for this transmission, but disassembled it while waiting for the manual to arrive.
When I removed the servos I kept the pistons and springs together but did not keep track of which hole they they came out of (front or rear). One is marked AB, and the other marked FB. Book says refer to techincal section, but the only thing I find anywhere says to re- install them according to the way you tagged them when you removed them . OOPS
Any one tell me which one goes where ? The motor is a 3.0 V6.

Thanks for that info, I'll be needing that when I get to the valve body. I was hoping there would be some help with that also.
There are not many steps in the book that got me to the point where it says "install OD and Intermediate servos". The two large diameter caps with pistons and springs that install from the outside of the transmission on the right hand side, long before the valve body is installed. I just need to know which one goes where. AB or FB goes in which hole front or back ?
Just tell me one and maybe I can figure out the other! LOL

I thought those 2 servo's were the same thing... but I might be mistaken. I laid my out so I knew which was which.

I'm thinking you are probably right. The difference is in the piston size, but the spring size is different also which may give them the same effect. I'm just trying to be sure.
I do thank you for the help...

What service manual are you using?

ATSG. I looked at the one posted on this web site. It seems to be the same, or at least has the same info cuz I couldn't find what I needed there either.

ATSG manual not so good.
I ordered the manual and disassembled the transmission while the manual was in route, thinking it would tell me everything I need to know to reassemble the transmission.
Wrong! "Refer to dis-assembly tags to identify which servo is intermediate and which one is overdrive, refer to dis-assembly tags as to which band is overdrive and which one is intermediate." I installed the servos according to pictures of complete transmissions, the bands looked identical to me so just installed them hoping for the best. Manual also does not specifically tell how to connect the wires on the two solenoids but I did write that down during dis-assembly.
After carefully following the instructions, I got transmission all together and had one pressed steel retaining clip and one small spring left in the parts container. Neither one was mentioned in the book! Also found a new spring in the kit real similar to the one left over in the parts container. Nothing mentioned about this spring in the kit instructions either!
I removed the pan and filter and found that the steel retainer fastens to the valve body and is used to hold one of the solenoids in place.
The spring is about the same size as the ones in the clutch assemblies, but I'm sure all those were in place when I assembled them. I thought maybe it went in the vacuum modulator but doesn't show in the instructions or in the parts diagram.
Any ideas anyone!

Transmission is in the truck and performing fine. Looking at the picture of the transmission and installing the servos to what the picture indicated worked out.
The extra spring looks alot like the oil relief valve spring for a BSA motorcycle motor that I have disassembled next to where the transmission was disassembled. LOL ! Guess I'll find out when I re-assemble the old BSA.
