Which is the left/right side of the car?

I can never remember if it's as I'm sitting in the car, or as I'm standing in front of the car looking at it.

I've gotta buy my buddy a new lock actuator for christmas and it seems they're all listed in terms of left/right versus driver/passenger

Thanks!

I think it's easy to remember if you consider it's from the point of view of the most important thing to a car, the driver.

I've often had problems with remembering that. I'm starting to catch on though. You just gotta remember to think of it in terms of the position of the driver, not the mechanic, lol. (driver in the drivers seat as opposed to a mechanic being under the hood in front)

Is the front of the car, from the view sitting in it, or looking at it from the headlight side...?????

I should be standard to call it pass front/rear or driver front/rear, instead of the more confusing right front, rear....and so on. I can never remember it either, and know plenty of people that have the same problem.

I agree. Lets make this a sticky so nobody has to worry about forgetting ever again! :icon_bounceblue:

One thing I forgot to mention, and nobody has mentioned yet... is the problem of someone explaining something using right front/rear or left front/rear, thinking it is as looking at the car from the front instead of from inside the car. It's just a pain in the ass, really.:dunno:

I vote to ban the use right front/rear and left front/rear...:icon_thumby:

Agreed. Can you imagine if someone had made that mistake with the tanks you restore?

Spotter: Alright, turn left
Tank driver: *turns left, and runs over something inportant*
Spotter: No no! You're other left!

in the medical field, we call this the "anatomical" left and right. the person you are examining it is their 'left', but as you are facing them, it is your 'right'. therefore we always refer to the patients 'left' and 'right' as if we, the medical professional, were in their body looking out.
so, always position yourself in the car looking out and that is the 'left' and 'right' of the vehicle.
