Hi, when going from standing stop to 1st gear my fan roars with surging rpm. This usually causes heads to turn with inside passenger and outside pedestrian. Any way to reduce this noise? If fan blade replacement is called for, my only option is the usual autozone staples, anyone tried them with good results? Thank you!

Sounds like the fan clutch is sticking. Replace it and you should be good to go. I think Auto zone or O'Reilly should be fine..especially if it has a lifetime warranty. They are fairly cheap and easy to replace

Now, are you taking about with the a/c going you hear the noise? And you are sure it is the fan making this noise? In all the vehicles I have ever owned I never had a noisy fan before. A fan belt noise....yes. I really hate that fan belt noise. Sometimes the fan belt can sound like a noisy fan...lol!!!
Well, check all the belt tensioners and the fan belt as well as the fan blade. Look for a broken blade on the fan, or one blade may be bent.
When was the last time a belt replacement was done or a water pump put on? AutoZone is fine for buying a new fan if you need one. Take your old one with you when you go to buy one....or have the salesman come out and look at the old one on your truck.

all the blades on my fan are cut short, I guess they put an oversized one in there.. maybe that's causing the noise.. it makes an air sucking sound like vrroom! when I throttle too hard on 1st gear. i have a/c but leave it off so it's not that. By the way, my temperature gauge is usually pointing to the top end of O and sometimes lower end of N, is this too hot? It's always been like that since I bought it which is 2 months ago.

Sounds like the fan clutch to me, they can be really loud. There's a how to test the fan clutch somewhere on the site, but basically when the motor is cold, try to turn the fan by hand, it should turn fairly easily. if it's solidly connected to the pulley the fan clutch is bad.

not sure if fan clutch is the culprit, it's not a constant roar, only when rpm is soaring from neutral to first in a rush because I live in NYC. not so bad when I take my time and let it glide into first but it kind of violates some NYC etiquette

I would put an oem fan back in it and not a hack fan, does it even still have a clutch fan or did they put in one of those goofy flex fans that do exactly what your talking about?

My 94 has same issue and it would be the fan clutch. Just too lazy to worry about and the noise does not last over a few seconds.

one of these days but other issues have priority now.
