Hi my names Barry and I live in flint MI. I've owned about 5 different rangers all of them 4cylinder none 4wd, except for one I dropped in a built 302 with 5 speed trans. I'm looking to buy a 90 4 fwd with 4 liter auto regular cab with 100,000 miles on it. Its in good shape small rust holes in the bed above the fender wells but the fender wells are still there, this would be the first ranger I owned like that. It has 33 inch mickeys and only a 2 inch lift. It looks good. The only issue with it is that while I was looking at it when I hit the 4wd button it buzzed but the light didn't turn on, so it was doing something. The guy is asking 1000, so it seems to me like a good deal. Any advice on the 4wd would be greatly appreciated, and does 1000 for a 90 in decent shape sound reasonable?

Welcome to TRS.
That old it is going to have problems with the electric 4wd.
What most of us do is, convert to Manual trans/manual transfer. The auto trannies break fairly easy.
There are 4 different common problems with the electric 4wd.
1-auto hubs
2-control panel (buttons on the dash)
3-control module
4-(Most common)shift motor on t-case.
If the lights are lighting and it tries to do something, the problem is most likely the shift motor.
$1000 is reasonable. Not a good deal, I think that is actually above blue book.

Thanks, that narrows it down, its gotta be the motor, I heard the module doing something. It has manual lockers, and I turned them on and drove around the guys yard with it. It didn't have any clunking or anything unusual, I just couldn't really tell if the t case engaged or not. The rims on it looked like these:

Oh and it had a roll bar with lights. I'm most likely going to buy it, I'll post pics once its in my driveway.
