My neighbor bought several cases of old documents and clippings at an auction.
While going through it he found some sweet things in there. One was a stamp book in pristine condition all in German from 1934 or something about Hitler and the Reich, out of hundreds of large (cigarette pack sized) color stamps, it was only missing 8.
The neater thing he found was a copy of "Stars and Stripes", dated June 7th 1944. That was pretty cool to be able to read. D-day was a rousing success apparently...
He gave me a copy of a Top Secret book on the Norton Bombsight too, kinda tattered, but still pretty sweet.
Both my Grandparents landed on the beaches of Normandy. I can't imagine all the friends they lost.
History will never forget those brave American, Canadian and English men who stormed Normandy 65 years ago tomorrow. Free people everywhere owe them all a debt of gratitude.
May God bless them all; and the men and women who serve our country today.
Brave brave men, i cant imagine being part of what they have done. I served in iraq and still can not imagine landing on the beaches. My grandfather served and was wounded then, I have the most respect for what they ahve done!
I am saddened by the pictures because I have been in war, but I am gladdened also that they loved their country enough to give their lives ---Let us not allow our country to be given away by those who have sacrificed nothing.....
Wow- neat pics of an unfortunate event that had to happen, and had to be won. It was a turning piont for the war. Truely, many brave souls fought and died there on those beaches in 1944, we owe them our upmost respect. We may never have to fight a war in this manner again, God willing. God bless our WWII Veterans past/present and all who serve our USA.
