A little problem with my 5r55e

I have a downshift flare and slight rough engagement when I slow down to about 25mph and hit the gas (lightly) as in slowing and yielding to the oncoming traffic as in entering another road. The upshifts are good, just at this certain time in the downshift it seems to delay and the engine flares for a second or 2. I don't know what gear it's going into ( maybe it don't know either) LOL. Maybe second? I only got 250k miles on the truck and the filter and fluid are fresh. No help. 97 Ranger,4.0 Thanks

when you down shift the rpms are going to flair, thats the point of the lower ratio.

I don't think you understand. The engine revs and there's no go until it finally sinks into gear then the torque converter locks back up. I been driving and wrenching for 50 yrs and all across the country. I know just a little about vehicles and what they're supposed to do.I'm looking for a lucky quick fix. Maybe I should have stated that.Thanks
