Actually it was my drill and a wire brush bit and a lot of chrome polish and hard work, but....

I thought the wire brush might scratch the chrome, but I keep a jar with chrome polish in it, and I dipped the wire brush in it before I applied it to the rims very heavily, and I worked the piss out of them. It even made the backs look good. I am pretty sure no one had ever cleaned the back of these rims. Any who, just thought you all would like the info,

Ultra fine steel wool works great too, and wipe off your elbow it has grease on it. :icon_thumby:

hmm, those rims look familiar, i think i got one laying around, same style. mabey i'll dig it up to see the size later in the day

This was to far gone for wool, I thought about it, but I said what the hell ,if I scratch them up I'll just paint them later. But I was quite surprised.:icon_thumby:

looks really nice man!
the truck looks really cool with those rims

Thread Jack - I want to polish my alcoas - do they have a clear coat on them or anything that would prevent me from just getting after it? RSH wants pics, but I gotta do a little detailing first!

Thanks to all. I got some chrome polish on the stock ones I was using as a table and it cleaned them up quite nice? Not sure? Oh I still have my stock ones for sell if anybody wants them. Make me an offer.

I didn't expect them to clean up that nice, kudos!

I'll have to remember that trick. But when I got to thinking about it, it's really not that crazy, chrome is a rather hard substance.

And to answer someone else's question, yes, the Alcoa alloys have a clear coat on them. You'd have to strip it to be able to polish them. That is the reason why I try not to run my Alcoa alloys in the winter (salt will eat 'em) and why I went to an internal balancing media in the tires rather than clip-on wheel weights. Those clip-on weights scratch the clearcoat and cause corrosion.

Yes it is, now I have to do the bumper on our 67 stang cause it's in bad shape.

Nice job hatman. They cleaned up really nice:icon_thumby:
