she wants a yj,tj,xj or 4runner and shed like it with a auto tranny. any ideas?? ive tryed to alke her into a B2,Ranger,Sploder but no dice. her price range is 15 to 2500

She's a chick.....she is why they created jeeps in the first place!!

$2500 wont get much of either a YJ and you might as well forget a TJ with that price range, even a early 90's YJ around here in decent shape is $3000+. A Cherokee (XJ?) is alot cheaper, with alot of miles on it. I would love to get either a YJ or TJ, but they just hold their value too well to get into my price range.

my stepdad had a XJ with 3xx,xxx miles on it that thing wouldnt die and would go through mud and up hills like nothing else i had seen as far as stock goes .. when he sold it he still got $3000 from it ... xploder would be the best thing for her

Well theres two choice for down here. Either.
A. 2002 Ford Ranger XLT, 4x4, Manual Trans, 4.0L, Ext Cab, w/ 40K miles for $7500
B. 1992 Ford Ranger XLT, 4x4, Man. Trans, Man. T-Case, 2.3L, Std cab/shortbox, for $1800
C. Somebody's elses project truck thats trashed

Option A is a very good choice. Its my Boss's truck and it has never seen off-roading. Only the snow covered roads.

Option B is the one I would go for. But I was flat out broke and could not afford it. Would have made an awsome 4x4 truck.

What about a Wagoneer XJ? I liked the one were Stacy David put the sweet looking gladiator grill on it. Can't you find those cheap?

hmmmm i guess we will have to talk lol. i figured a sploder would b good, she wants something thats pretty good on gas. a wagoneer wont b...i beleave most of them came with v8's

What's wrong with a Jeep? If that's what she wants, why try to convice her to get something that's not what she initially wanted, and has less aftermarket support. Maybe she likes Jeeps, and wants an incredibly easy-to-modify solid axle rig. To each their own. BroncoII's, Rangers, and Explorers aren't the end-all answer to every vehicle situation....

Mmmm Very true..... I guess you could say Jeepers are more "user friendly" :icon_thumby:

well shes leaning on a late 80's 4runner, but "she dont want a 5speed". i could teach her how to use a 5speed

Their automatics, at least the earlier ones in the YJ, suck just as much as the A4LD. The automatics in the ZJs suck as well.

Convince her to get a manual transmission.

ill try lol, shes awfully thick headed and picky. lol

Honestly.....she'll be better off with a 5sp. Automatics in anything from the late 80's in the compact field are mostly junk.

She may be best off with a Mid 80's Fullsize, like a F150 or K series Chevy. There bigger, tougher, and harder to kill if she decides to get crazy with it, the drivetrains (spically the C6's and Turbo 350's) are tough, and being a girl ya know shes gonna back into things, scrape things, so on, and a Fullsize will stand up to that better.

later,
Dustin

+1

It's the overdrive automatics that suck...all the 3 speeds are tough as nails. Although the fullsize automatics like the AOD or the 4L80 are much better than the compact and midsize automatics.

Her price range narrows it down to a Cherokee. They can be had for $500 in running, driving condition. Any 4Runner or Wrangler in that price range will likely be junk.
