He has found three 5 1/3 gallong Jerrycans NEW IN BOX! What do these pre-ban gas jugs go for in todays market?

Last I have read they were just over a hundred bucks, but that was several years ago from a Hummer site!:icon_confused:

He would like to sell them at fair market value, the way he talks, he thinks he has found gold.:icon_surprised:

I have 60 bucks in 2 of them.

Those are pretty damn pricy. Ive been wanting a couple but they are hard to come by. How much is he going to sell them for? I may try and get a couple

you can still get pre-bans pretty reasonably priced 30-50 bucks i got a couple at auction for 35 bucks

im having a moment here anyone care to expain this "preban gas can"???

Pre ban cans have a strong latch that seals the lid shut. If my understanding is correct, California didnt think they were child proof enough and got a law passed that forced a change to be made in the lid system. Since companies dont wont to produce both carb and non carb (CARB compliant cans are the new ones) cans, they stopped making the ones with a latch system that locked with a pin so they could be sold. The lids on cans now are all plastic screw on caps, they are more prone to leak fuel and they also let out the fumes. The old ones however didnt leak a damn thing. If I missed anything or have wrong information someone feel free to correct.

The first picture are the new CARB compliant crap. The second picture are the old pre ban cans.

Shoot, I got 4 or 5 of those used layin in the garage I want to say. I had to research what "jersey cans" were for a pic. I'm actually wanting to get rid of them. I'm in SE Michigan just S of Detroit if anyone wants them, PM me and I will get pics for you. I wont send in mail due to being used, but will hold for pick up.

ahhh that explains it thanks daniel!

Somehow, I don't think that my old screw on lid cans would be Velcome in the land of Commiefornia, Komrad. Just one more reason to stay away from the leftist coast state of insanity.

Looks like gas cans just turned blue. Can't be that difficult to replace the gasket. Can it??

the gasket I wouldn't think so but I don't know what they're talking about with the can lining. if the lining is harmful to the gasoline, seems like the gasoline is eating the lining...meaning you could keep gasoline in it until it eats off the lining, replace the gasket and paint it red.

hit the nail dead on.:icon_thumby:

So they changed it for the sake of being childproof?

I always thought strength-based forms of child proofing (kids are not strong enough to shove the tab that lets them open the bottle/can) were a stupid idea, being as that there's always gonna be that kid that's strong or smart enough to open it anyway.

Yep. Now its a plastic lid with a tab sticking out so you have to press that tab in and then twist the lid off. Is it really any more child proof? I doubt it.
