I have a 2008 ranger 4.0. I am looking to replace the exhaust soon, there is a guy in town that has duals on his ranger it doesn't seem to sound to bad. I am more worried about losing low end or MORE fuel mileage out of it? So I have a few questions, which muffler would you recommend I don't mind being loud or having a drone because it is a truck, and I happen to have a good stereo :headbang: But I don't want it sounding like the guy who slaps flowmasters on his v6 camero and thinks it sounds like sex at wide open throttle. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Check out my post on dynomax exhaust.:icon_thumby:

Unlikely that duals will hurt the mpg, they will hurt low end torque and hp. I have a Gibson on my Sport Trac. Gibson's own website says a 5hp gain with their dual system and an 8hp gain with their single.

honestly a single in/out 2.5 inch piped flowmaster super 44 sounds really good on the sohcs. I had that setup on my old 03 ex sport.

in all honesty leave it, nothing i have put on my ranger has yet to sound good
ive gota 4.0 sohc and its just one of those motors that sounds like garbage, my 3.0 ranger had way better exhaust note then my 4.0 now. plus no exhaust is going to get you 8 or even 5 HP, its all a sham. if anything you lose power. just put a nice exhaust tip on your truck and call it a day.

Well I have a very small hole in the muffler now, and after this winter the muffler will be trash regardless. So going stock again is out of the question due to the price. And as for power, I have seen first hand what free flowing exhausts can do for a engine, so I would have to disagree with you saying its a sham.

mhh i beg to differ, only thing that has ever happened from me putting a free flowing exhaust on any truck is losing low end power. and usually the smaller the motor gets the less the exhaust matters. if your going to replace it ans you want something that sound decent check out a flowmaster 40 series street series or a spintech

I picked up a solid 3 mpg on the highway. City mpg is no different.

Also DFracing, dyno's do not lie(and not the claims put on sites). And if a 4cly or a v8 can benefit off of a free flowing exhaust, I can't see how our 4.0 sohc v6's are the odd ones out s:

I had a flowmaster 40 single in dual out on a 99 4.0 Ranger I had. Hardly any sound. My Ranger I have now has a Dynomax cat back single system.....Sounds great. And no, I didn`t lose any low end torque. Seat of the pants seems like I gained a little. And I know, the 99 was a push rod 4.0 and the 10 Ranger is a 4.0 sohc.

Thanks for the input richlands55. I may look into the dynomax exhaust, seems a lot of people go that route on this site.

I picked up just about 2 MPG on my OHV. Now its time to replace the Exhaust on my SOHC.... we'll see what I gain on this one.
