Hey guys,

So finally my engine and trans package are complete. Almost 100% new parts on the engine (79' T-Bird 302) and FMX trans. Gunna be taking the drivetrain up to bud's shop the next few weeks to start the install. But still a few minor questions that need a little help with.

Pretty sure my drive shaft will hook up fine with no mods, but what about the transmission yoke and u joints? Will I be looking for a new yoke with correct spline and size? Truck is in storage and cant get old yoke out to measure any differences. If so what vehicles can I get a new yoke for a FMX trans out of or what will match up (ex: c4/c6 yokes etc..) Also, I assume the u joints on a ranger and v8 yoke will hopefully be interchangable ya?

Trans Shifter: I've bought a aftermarket shifter but its being a pain in the ass to fab up a linkage that will allow smooth shifting through all gears using the oem manual linkage hook-up. Has anyone hooked up linkage back to column shifter and how hard is the process..

Thanks guys all input is very appreciated!

The stock shifter linkage should work fine. Not sure why your going with fmx, but I would get the yoke out of the vehicle you got the trans from, or get one from a trans or driveshaft shop, or eBay. I'm not familiar with fmx trannies, so I don't know if the yoke splines are the same or not...

Looking in my Mustang interchange book, spline count looks to be 31 spline. U-joints could be either the 1310 or 1330 depending on application, spline of rear axle. Results might vary depending on different cars.

If your truck originally had a 3.0L or a 2.3L, don't even bother using the driveshaft. They came with small weak U-joints. The 4.0L trucks have driveshafts with bigger U joints.

Back in the day I had a 77 LTD II. It had a C3 for a transmission. It blew 2 of them apart. (351win out of a 72 merc) We opted for a 72' FMX. If memory serves? Had to install a bell housing and the drive shaft mated right up without problems.

This is one case where you might not know until you try.
