A dumb question about the Neutral on the transfer case

I know this is probably a rear dumb and beginner question but what is the Neutral for on the transfer case? Just curious to know in what situations you would use it. Thanks for the help with this dumb question

If my memory serves me right it is there to allow you to shift into 4low the transfer case needs to be under no load to engage that set of gears. Also in an automatic trans it allows for towing on a car dolly

Yeah, that is pretty much it. The t-case is not synchronized, so you have to pass through a neutral area where it is unloaded from the engine before it will engage smoothly into low range.

It is also quite useful for flat or dolly towing.

ok I just wanted to make sure I knew what it was there for I figured it was a way of going from 4h to 4l because the headliner sticker says you can go straight from 4h to 4l so I see now that the N is there so that you are able to go from 4h to 4l without messing up anything. thanks
