Anyone ever delete/modify the A/C part of the heater box to free up engine bay space? I don't use the A/C in my truck and I can't find a box that didn't come without A/C.

Yes. I’ve read of people doing it. I’m not sure it’s the easiest thing to get right. I recently found a non-A/C box for mine at one of my local junk yards.

You might find the info by searching in the V8 swap threads.

Take the evaporator core cover off and cut the bulge off the perimeter section- preserving the perimeter so you have the attaching flange. Then make something to block the opening that will free up some space- or just make your own block off and don't cut the original. You just need to leave enough space for air to flow through the heater core. A piece of aluminum scuffed up and painted satin black will blend right in. My truck came to me with no heater/evaporator case so I covered the hole and used a Vintage air system. Eng in process.JPG

Well done, that engine bay looks great!

Ill trade you mine. I would like to add a/c one day.

I will mention this again, all your heat and vent air goes through that plenum that sticks out. So you can't get rid of it completely, you need a air passage through there for airflow. I would keep looking for a non-A/C plenum, that would be the slickest option.

If you wanna modify it, take it off and look at how the air flows. The remove AC core and cut off the part that help it. replace with anything flat. (trim coil, fiberglass, plexiglass, etc.)

Here's a pic of non-ac airbox to make it easier.

BTW, that flows enough air that at 55MPH I have to close the vents or it's the same as having the fan running one setting down from high.
