When I turn my A/C on, it starts to blow a fog out that smells just like hot engine coolant. I am an idiot when it comes to A/C problems, so please help!
Where do I start?

It's possible you have a leaking heater core.

Ditto. Your heater core has sprung a leak and must be replaced.

Is this repair like the older rangers which requires the entire dash to be pulled out of the truck?

The older rangers (pre 95) did not need the dash pulled out. From 95 up, everything has to be pulled out of the way to get access.

Does the fog go away after a minute or two? If it does its not a coolant leak. Fog from a leaky heater core doesn't evaporate from your windsheild on its own, you physicly have to clean it off and it leaves a geasy residue on your windsheild. If my truck sits for a while in and the AC doesn't get used much it will fog my windsheild when I first turn it on and it will have an odd musty smell to it. Before you go tearing your dash apart figure out if its just water condensate on your windsheild first

I bought a 5/8 x 5/8 coupling and bypassed the heater core and the fog and smell went away almost immediately, so I am guessing now that it IS the heater core that has gone bad.
