i was told by a buddy that now days you can turn your a/c in to a air compressor and so i was wondering how to do that and is it worth it how good of a compressor would it be pressure wise

you can do this, rather easy too, in fact i was going to do it on my bronco II, but ended up junking the truck before ot happened. I be honest, i wouldnt have a clue how much air a typical a/c compressor on a truck puts out. however i do know, that with a small airhorn, the compressor of my BII, (and we tried it with my friends old cherokee, he was doing the on board air aswell) was MORE then enough to power the horn. it wasnt a big horn, but for whats it worth.

obviously, you would want to put a storage tank, somewhere on the vehicle, this way you can limitedly use airtools (such as a impact wrench), however if you just want to use it only for inflating tires, i suppose you could just run a hose from the compressor, you would still need a pressure switch, or else once you turn the compressor on, the pressure in the hose would shoot up very fast, and probably damage the compressor, or hose. with whatever setup you wanna do, it wont be too hard. and if you dont need your a/c, i actually suggest it....i beleave ethier this site, or BII.org has a page on doing a a/c air compressor setup, just look around.

they can move a lot of air. At idle mine blows up my 3 gallon tank in about as many seconds. Don't forget you will need an oiler and an oil seperater.

you can convert it. seen it before. hook it up to a big air tank. you still need something to activate the clutch on it, so use a switch or something

The stock sanden compressors on the 3.0, 4.0L don't take too kindly to being used as a compressor. I'm running this set up. I've had it for 3 years now, and been through 5 compressors. I am running an oiler as well so its not lack of lubrication. My buddy is running his stock 2.9L compressor for the same amount of time and has never had a problem with it.

I am either going to be installing a York 210 or a Viar 12v compressor as my next step as I am finally running out of 4.0L compressors.
