Alright guys I need some advice. I'm tired of the a/c compressor coming on when I don't want it to. It automatically comes on and goes of when on most climate settings other than the floor vents or only the top vents. I'd like to make a direct switch to kill power to the compressor without messing up it's ability to auto shut off/on when I want it on.
Where should I place my switch in the circuit to achieve this. Keep in mind I want to mount the switch on the dash, preferably on the center bezel. 99 Ranger. 4.0 ohv engine

There is a plug with two wires that plugs right into the AC compressor. Cut one of those wires and wire the switch in there. There are also two pressure switches under the hood. Both of them have a two-wire connector. You can cut one of the wires to either switch and wire your switch in there.

Interrupt the Violet wire that comes out of the HVAC Control, install the switch there.

PM me if you want the schematic.

I could use a diagram. My question is if I do it this way, will the compressor still be able to auto shut off and on as long as I have the switch on?

Why not just pull the existing connector off the A/C clutch? Plug it back in when you want to activate A/C. Same for low-side cycling switch on the accumulator. No need for an actual switch.
